The SHP Swim Team defeated Oratory Prep 124-46 on Thursday February 8 at NJIT in the 2nd round of the NJSIAA Non-Public North Tournament. The Pirates improved to 9-1 on the season in what is thought to be the first ever meeting between the two schools in swimming. The Pirates took first place in all 11 events, with seniors Cormac Rouse and Owen Ripley each being double winners. Rouse sizzled in winning the 50 Freestyle in 21.46 and the 100 Freestyle in 46.56, while Ripley won the 200 Freestyle in 1:51.93 and the 500 Freestyle in 4:57.23. Fellow seniors Pat Miller and Richard Poplawski each took a first place, Miller in the 100 Butterfly (53.70) and Poplawski in the 200 IM (2:00.60). Juniors Karl Burghardt and Connor O'Neill captured the last two individual events, Burghardt winning the 100 Backstroke in 56.28 and O'Neill the 100 Breaststroke in 1:03.48.
The relay winners for the Prep were: Burghardt, O'Neill, Poplawski and Senior Aryan Kapoor in the 200 Medley Relay (1:39.47); junior George Peralvo, Senior Francis Jaso, Kapoor, and Rouse in the 200 Freestyle Relay (1:32.50); and junior Kyle Phillips, Jaso, Freshman Ryan Pelosi, and Rouse in the 400 Freestyle Relay (3:26.73).
Next up for the Pirates is the north semifinal on Monday the 12th against St. Peter's Prep, where SHP hopes to make up for their only loss this season, an 87-83 defeat in December.
