Chris Boyle '13 Appointed Swimming Coach Upon Coach Alexander's Retirement

Seton Hall Prep Swimming Head Coach, Joe Alexander, has announced his retirement from the position following the 2023-2024 season. We are proud that Chris Boyle '13, assistant coach and SHP science teacher will take over for his mentor.

"I have decided that, for various reasons, it is time for me to retire from coaching swimming after 36 seasons with the program," stated Coach Joe Alexander.  "It has been a wonderful part of my life, and it was so marvelous to have concluded my career with the great excitement of the team winning all three relays at the state Meet of Champions this year.  I am extremely pleased to be succeeded by my Assistant Chris Boyle, who knows our tradition so well having been an SHP swimmer himself, and who has made substantial contributions to our program's recent success in his time as Assistant Coach."

Boyle, who swam collegiately for Rowan University from 2013-2017 following a stellar career as a Pirate, commented, “I am grateful to have worked with Joe Alexander over the past four seasons as an assistant and have learned a great deal from him on and off the pool deck. Joe Alexander and Randy Schweitzer have been steady, guiding forces for Seton Hall Prep Swimming over their thirty-plus years with the team and I am honored by the opportunity to play a part in the program’s continued success. Thanks to our Athletic Director, Larry Baggitt, for naming me head coach and to the Seton Hall Prep Swimming community for making it what it is today.”

"I am incredibly confident that the program remains in the best hands possible, and we are all so grateful for the career and legacy Coach Alexander left behind," commented Athletic Director Larry Baggitt ‘H18. "Chris, like his predecessors, is a loyal Seton Hall Prep educator, and his experience as an assistant coach, alumnus, and collegiate student-athlete will be to the tremendous benefit of our swimmers."

“Our program has reached outstanding heights under coaches John Prisco (1968-1981), John Slevin (1981-1988), Randy Schweitzer (1988-2018), and Joe Alexander (AC 1988-2018, HC 2018-2024),” stated Headmaster Michael G. Gallo ’79. “I know the pride they have in our swimming program, and to have an alumnus and faculty member in Chris Boyle ready to take the reins will only continue us on the phenomenal path set forth by his predecessors.”

Joe Alexander will remain a Theology teacher at The Prep despite retiring as Swimming Head Coach, and Chris Boyle assumes responsibility for the program beginning this off-season.
