Cross Country competes in County Championship

At this week’s Conference Championship at Branch Brook Park, our Varsity, JV, and Freshman teams all put up strong performances, finishing in 2^nd place in all three races. In the varsity race, there were some known quantities in teams that The Prep had faced before and some unknowns in teams like Columbia who did not contest the regular season conference races. The young SHP varsity squad of two seniors and five sophomores were eager to race and set out faster than in previous weeks. With a more crowded field, the Pirates had to be much more attentive to their positioning throughout the race.  Racing hard through the 2^nd and 3^rd miles, The Prep’s scoring would be locked in by senior Connor Schmit (17:26), sophomore Andrew Burkitt (17:44), senior Ben Brennan (17:50), sophomores Nick Cirelli (18:00- PR), and Dan Bevington (18:17). Rounding out the varsity squad were sophomores Tommy Basinger (18:29-PR), and Ronan Carter (18:44). They would post a team average of 17:51 and come in 2^nd place behind Columbia- an improvement over last year’s 5^th place finish.

 

In JV racing, The Prep was on the chase most of the race and were led by strong efforts by freshmen Charlie Grube (18:47- PR), Eamon McConnon (19:07-PR), junior Christian Dolz-Carrizo (19:13), seniors Taylor Mason (19:38-PR), and Owen Giblin (20:06). They would post a team average of 19:12. Scoring for the 2^nd Place freshman team were Peyton Roy (12:10), Jackson Melchiore (12:26), Alex Parvulescu (12:29), Cameron Arana (13:00) and Ben Cuomo (13:06). Notable performance on the day included: freshmen Sal Mehalaris (2:07 drop), Will Mott (1:07 drop), Jack LoGrande (1:04 drop), sophomores Tommy Basinger (43 s. drop), Mike Duff (57 s. drop), Malachi Michel (51s. drop), and senior Taylor Mason (38s. drop). Congratulations
