Track & Field competes in the winter indoor season and spring outdoor season under the direction of Head Coach John Finnegan.

The Prep competes in the American Division of the Super Essex Conference. In addition to SEC competition, the Pirates compete in the NJSIAA state meets, Essex County Relay and Individual Meets, and a variety of invitationals, which can be found in the schedule, below.

The program was crowned NJSIAA Outdoor State Champions six times in its history (1959, 1960, 1970, 1984, 1986, 2007), and since 1999, Seton Hall Prep Track & Field has won:

Essex County Indoor Realys: 2002, 2007,  2011, 2014, 2015

Essex County Indoor Championships: 2004, 2005, 2006

Essex County Outdoor Relays: 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015

Essex County Outdoor Championships: 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2005, 2013

North Jersey Sectional State Title: 2015

Full Bio

Coach John "Finn" Finnegan has lead the Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field teams to a combined 15 state championships, 13 conference titles, and 17 Essex County Championships. In 1988, Coach Finn was named Coach of the Year by the Star Ledger for his accomplishments. Finnegan also coached varsity football at the Prep for over 25 years, and was voted "Coach of the 90's" by the Star Ledger in 2000. Coach Finn is a member of the Hall of Fame at Immaculate Conception HS where he served as Athletic Director and head football coach prior to joining the SHP family.
