SHP Crew: Stotesbury Cup Recap
The Pirates had six boats advance to the semifinals (a program best), two boats to the finals, and the Junior Quad won the George C. Hines Trophy (first Stotes win in program history)
Seton Hall Prep Rowing sent 44 of their student-athletes to compete in the 96th Stotesbury Cup Regatta in Philadelphia from Friday, May 19 to Saturday, May 20th, where over 4,500 student-athletes and nearly 200 teams competed in the largest high school scholastic regatta in the world.
Coming off the heels of a successful showing last year with the team’s first medals in any category, SHP Crew doubled down with their best performance in program history. All boats showed strength and competition in their categories, racing against some of the best teams in the country.
The team sent a record six boats and 31 student-athletes to compete in semi-finals. Two of those boats (made of 13 student-athletes) made it to the grand finals on the second day of the regatta. The Junior Eight (Klacik, Spain, Latimer, Grosetti, Widmer, Korkmaz, Rodriguez, Robinson, Knewitz) placed 4th in their tightly contested final, less than a second away from medaling crews.
This was the highest finish by a Seton Hall Prep big boat and represents a coveted goal of rowing teams to produce highly successful big and small boats.
The Junior Quad (Balsamo, Balsamo, King, Vyzas) placed 1st in their final after winning their time trial and semifinal.
This results is the first Stotesbury Cup win in program history and brought home the George C. Hines trophy.
The Prep rowing will finish out their season at SRRA Nationals in Oak Ridge, Tennessee this weekend where they hope to continue off the success in Philadelphia and bring back more medals for The Pirates.
