Cross Country competes at SEC Championship

This week’s Conference Championship was a day of exciting racing.  With more of our freshman taking on the JV 5K, a smaller group of competitive freshmen took on the opening race, our Freshman 2 Miler- and compete they did.  As a team they would come in 2nd Place and most would turn in Branch Brook PR’s.  Scoring for the team were Michael Duff (12:59- 2nd), Jaden Wall (13:08- 5th), Roman Daniels (13:23- 10th), Aidan Doran (14:04) and Aidan Benjamin (14:17).  As a team, they would come in a close 5th out of ten teams.  Senior co-captain TJ Sparno would lead the team in hot pursuit of the frontrunners and would come in a close 7th in a time of 17:23 (BB PR).  Scoring for our team was rounded out by junior Ben Brennan (18:08- BB PR), sophomore Christian Dolz-Carrizo (18:13- PR), senior co-captain Russ Webb (18:24- BB PR) and senior Frederick Groppe (19:08- BB PR).  In the final race of the day, the JV squad put on a show coming a close second to Millburn in a score of 35-40.  From the start of the race , freshman Nick Cirelli led the race with his Millburn competitor, followed by freshman Dan Bevington and junior John Dec and a horde of SHP teammates.  At the finish, Bevington and Cirelli would come in 1st and 2nd in fast times of 18:52 and 18:54.  Dec (19:19- BB PR- 6th Place), senior Vincent Wong (19:42- BB PR) and freshman Soren Svenson (19:48- PR) would score for the team.  On the day, 37 of our runners ran PR’s or Branch Brook PR’s.  The biggest drops for the day were earned by: freshman Rafael Morales (3:31 drop), sophomore Aidan Walters (1:30 drop), freshman Aidan Benjamin (1:13 drop), freshman Luis Dacosta (1:11 drop), and sophomore Johan Sanchez (1:08 drop).
